SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (June 12, 2010) – Jeff Agnew, who led the first practice session for Saturday's Strutmasters.com 250 at South Boston Speedway in his Team 7 Motorsports Ford, claimed his first pole this season in qualifying for the USARacing Pro Cup Series race.
Agnew pushed his Ford to a 16.096-second, 89.463-mph lap in a qualifying session that was briefly delayed by rain at the 0.400-mile track. The 12th pole of Agnew's USAR Pro Cup career moved the Floyd, Va., driver into a tie with Jason Sarvis for sixth on the all-time list.
Joining Agnew on the front row is John Gibson. The Springfield, Mo., driver's lap of 16.126 seconds, 89.297 mph in his MitiGator Ford was his best qualifying effort this season.
Point leader Clay Rogers, who led the final practice session, earned the third starting position. The Mooresville, N.C., native recorded a 16.136-second, 89.241-second lap in his USG Sheetrock Ford.
Chase Elliott, son of 1988 NASCAR Winston Cup champion Bill Elliott, earned the fourth starting position for his South Boston Speedway debut. Elliott's 16.145-second, 89.192-mph lap in his Aaron's Ford came in only his second USAR Pro Cup outing. The 14-year-old Elliott made his USAR Pro Cup debut last month at the 1-mile Rockingham Speedway.
Rounding out the top five was Caleb Holman in his Food Country USA Chevrolet. The Abingdon, Va., driver recorded a 16.172-second, 89.043-mph lap.
