USAR Reduces Teams' Costs

CONCORD, N.C. ( June 3, 2010) – In a move to help teams reduce costs, USARacing Pro Cup Series Director Jimmy Wilson announced Thursday he was eliminating the need for each team to have a person score its car during an event.

“Since the 2010 season began we have been working on perfecting our electronic scoring system and we now feel comfortable with it and the data it provides,” Wilson said. “We also are constantly looking for ways to help our teams reduce costs and by eliminating the need for a person to score a car we figure we can save each team around $3,000 annually. That figure includes a scorer's salary, travel and lodging for our 16-race schedule.”

Ever since the series began, each team has been required to provide a person to score its car. However, each car is now equipped with two transponders. Line scoring has always been done by USAR Pro Cup officials and will continue to be done in the series control tower. 

The first race where each team will not be required to provide a person to score its car is the Strutmasters.com 250 at South Boston [Va.] Speedway.
