Pro Cup Champ Grabs Second All-American Honor
Myrtle Beach, S.C.-This season, Benny Gordon became just the third driver to win multiple Pro Cup titles. And his stellar season didn’t go unnoticed.
Today, the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association named the 2-time Pro Cup champion Second Team All-American (AARWBA) in the Touring Series category. Gordon received Honorable Mention All-American in 2005.
Gordon finished the season with six wins, 11 top-5s and 12 top-10s. In addition, he led a series-high 898 laps, led 12 of the 13 races in which he competed and finished the season with an average finish of 3.15.
Gordon became the third Pro Cup driver to be named Second Team All-American. Clay Rogers was named to the team in 2006, while Bobby Gill made the Second Team last year. Gordon and Shane Huffman both have received Honorable Mention on the All-American Team in past years.

Benny Gordon claims overall title; Drew Herring takes rookie of the year
Rockingham, N.C.-Rockingham Speedway has seen its fair share of exciting finishes in the past. Well, add the finish of Mark Brooks Memorial Black’s Tire American 200 to the list of memorable moments at "The Rock."
Rookie Drew Herring blasted by Benny Gordon with 20 laps remaining and was pulling away for his first Hooters Pro Cup win before catching lapped traffic with seven laps remaining. Herring had to check up, allowing Rogers to swing by to take the lead and hold on for the win on Saturday, Nov. 1.
"This is a pretty emotional win," said Rogers, who took home $12,000 for the win. "I’ve won a race every year in my career since 1989, and it didn’t look like it was going to happen this year the way our luck was going lately.
"I thought our car was as good as Drew’s, but we got tight when I got up to him. It looked like the lapped cars were racing ahead of him and he caught them at the wrong time. I’ve had it happen to me. Sometimes it just happens that way. He had the momentum taken away, and I didn’t have to slow down. Once we got out front, I was just concentrating on protecting the bottom."

Pro Cup Champion receives second nomination on ballot
BURBANK, Calif. - Voting has begun among more than 300 members of the motorsports press to select the 2008 Auto Racing All-America team.
Benny Gordon, the overall Hooters Pro Cup Champion, is among the drivers vying for first-team honors in the Tour Series Category. Gordon was named Honorable Mention All-American by the AARWBA in 2005.
Gordon won a series-high six times during the 2008 season, but the most impressive stat may be the fact that the DuBois, Pa., driver completed every lap during the season-all 2,789 of them.
In all, Gordon finished the season with six wins, 11 top-5s and 12 top-10s. In addition, he led a series-high 898 laps, led 12 of the 13 races in which he competed and finished the season with an average finish of 3.15.
With his second title in hand, Gordon pushed his career earnings in the Hooters Pro Cup Series to $1,396,100 in 99 starts.
In the past four years, Clay Rogers and Bobby Gill made the Second Team All-American, while Shane Huffman and Gordon have received Honorable Mention.

PKR Crew, Sears Auto Center Chevy Capture USAR Pit Crew Challenge At Rockingham
TEAM RELEASE
Monday, November 10, 2008 9:54:00 AM
Mooresville, N.C.-While Mark McFarland and his Pete Knight Racing crew may have just missed winning the 2008 USAR Hooters Pro Cup championship, they didn’t walk away empty handed.
On Friday, the PKR bunch captured pit road bragging rights winning the BFGoodrich Tires Pit Crew Challenge at Rockingham Speedway.
"The Pit Crew Championship is something our guys really deserve," said PKR crew chief Wes Ward. "They work three days a week for one stop on Saturday night. If you do have a bad pit stop, you never get to leave the racetrack having redeemed yourself. That just doesn’t happen in one-pit stop races.
"To come in there and prove that they were good was great," Ward continued. "We’ve been steady all year long. They practiced hard for the championship and to win it while representing Pete Knight Racing and Sears Auto Center is a great reward."

Brett Butler, No. 99 Verve Energy Drink Team climb into Top-10 Before Losing Transmission at "The Rock"
TEAM RELEASE
Monday, November 10, 2008 9:51:00 AM
Snellville, Ga.-Brett Butler and the No. 99 Verve Energy Drink Team hit the high banks at full speed during their visit to the famed Rockingham Speedway for the USAR Season Finale "American 200" last weekend.
They headed into the weekend right in the middle of an unbelievable Championship Battle. The Verve Energy Drink Team was just four points out of 20th heading into the weekend. They looked to be on pace to climb as high as 10th early in the event, but a broken transmission would end their day dropping them to 33rd in the final rundown and 26th in the Chase Points Race.
"It was a cool place to run, a disappointing way to end the season with the transmission problem – but we really have something here with our Verve Energy Drink Team. These guys are awesome when it comes to getting these cars to work for us," said Butler after the weekend wrapped up.
